GPS Monitored Offender Arrested with Gun and Drugs

New Bedford, MA — On November 14th, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were attempting to stop a vehicle that fled from them at a high rate of speed.  During the subsequent pursuit, detectives observed the vehicle operator throwing an item out of the window.  This item was later found to be a loaded handgun.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s operator was HAYDEN ANDRADE, 22, of South Dartmouth. ANDRADE was wearing a GPS monitoring bracelet. He was subsequently located in the area of the Brock Avenue/Emery St. intersection and, after a short foot pursuit, was placed into custody. Detectives located a plastic bag of fentanyl weighing 18 grams and a plastic bag of cocaine weighing 42 grams.

ANDRADE was arrested in February of 2023 for dealing cocaine after 15 grams were seized during the execution of a search warrant at his house.  He was then released on bail from New Bedford District Court.  Two months later, he was arrested once again while out on bail after leading detectives on a chase, crashing his vehicle, and then being found in possession of an illegal firearm and 24 grams of cocaine.  When he appeared before New Bedford District Court, he was again released, this time on a GPS anklet. However, he was already on bail following his arrest for dealing cocaine.

“It is unfortunate that, yet again, I have to inform the public that we have re-arrested an individual who had no business being on the street.  The decision at New Bedford District Court to release him after his felony arrest in April of 2023 while out on bail was a significant error in judgment,” said Chief Paul Oliveira. “Our officers work tirelessly to ensure public safety, but when key decisions at New Bedford District Court fail to reflect the gravity of certain cases, the consequences affect the safety of our City.  I urge the judges at New Bedford District Court to consider this as we strive to maintain the trust and safety of the residents of New Bedford.”

The arresting officers were Detectives Jacob Rebello and Jonathan Miranda.
