14-Year-Old Shooting Suspect Arrested with a Firearm

New Bedford, MA — Detectives have placed a 14-year-old shooting suspect under arrest and recovered a firearm in his possession.

On Tuesday, November 12th, detectives located a juvenile who was wanted in connection with a recent shooting.  The shooting took place in early September at an apartment on Studley Street, during which a round was fired into the floor.  The juvenile was taken into custody yesterday without incident.  During the arrest, he was found to have a Glock 17 handgun loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.  The gun was fitted with a magazine capable of holding up to 34 rounds.

“It’s unsettling that such a dangerous weapon was found in the hands of such a young offender,” said Chief Paul Oliveira. “I hope that this seizure has prevented a future tragedy and that this arrest can be a turning point in the life of this young man.  He is clearly in need of intervention.”

Detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Division were assisted by state troopers assigned to the VFAS unit, a team that concentrates its efforts on wanted people with a propensity for violence.
