Repeat Offender Arrested on County Street with a Gun
Detectives have taken a gun off the street and put a repeat offender behind bars.
On Monday, Oct. 21, detectives were conducting surveillance in the South End sector of the city when they received information that a male identified as GUILHERME “GILLY” JALO, 23, of 106 Bullard Street, had a firearm on him and was in the County Street bar district.
Detectives entered an establishment to find JALO sitting at a bar. As a result of a search that followed, a Lorcin L380 firearm with seven 9mm caliber rounds of ammo was found to be in his possession. He was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammo without an FID card, and having a defaced serial number on the gun.
JALO was recently one of fifteen people arrested during a recent crackdown on the County Street Bar district in late August. Detectives conducted that operation in response to business complaints and narcotics activity. On that day, he was arrested and charged with selling a woman crack cocaine. Both of these cases remain open in New Bedford District Court, along with a case from April during which he provided a police officer with a false name to avoid being arrested on a warrant. With this additional arrest, JALO now has seven open cases.
“I’m thankful that detectives were able to intercept this firearm before it could be used in an act of violence. Having just been arrested in August for dealing narcotics, I’m disappointed that this man was allowed back onto the street where he is continuing his criminal behavior,” said Chief Paul Oliveira. “Again, my sympathy lies with all the residents and business owners in the County Street bar area who must continually deal with the same individuals causing them problems.”
The arresting officers were Det. Emily Pacheco and Det. Matthew Couture.
